Bishops' House

Norton Lees Ln, Meersbrook, Sheffield S8 9BE, United Kingdom
What We Offer:

Steeped in history and full of charm, Bishops’ House is both a museum and Sheffield’s best preserved timber framed building.  Bishops House was built in 1554, during the short but turbulent reign of Mary Tudor (1553 to 1558) and appears to be the last surviving building from that time of Norton Lees. Norton Lees was then a tiny village surrounded by fields of the Derbyshire countryside, with Sheffield a small town some two miles away. Once a yeoman’s farm surrounded by fields, today Bishops’ House is one of the region’s architectural treasures, open as a museum and hosting regular events, weddings and school visits. Bishops’ House is kept open to the public by The Friends of Bishops’ House, working in partnership with Sheffield City Council who own and maintain the building, and Museums Sheffield who curate most of the items on display. Entertain yourself with the historical museum in the heart of Sheffield.

Magnificent. Interesting and beautifully looked after. If you live in Sheffield and have a sense of wonder about history then this Tudor building is an absolute must. Lovely staff too.
We had our wedding at Bishops house on 29th July 2022 and it was perfect. Jenni, who coordinated it all for us, was so helpful and accommodating and the team on the day were brilliant. Bishops House is a beautiful Tudor building, the exterior is stunning and the views from the top of the park are amazing, it felt elegant and also very intimate due to the size of the building which made it feel extra special. Jenni and the team decorated it beautifully and Jenni was able to walk us through everything in advance which put us at ease and ran the day perfectly. Thank you all so much for giving us the most perfect wedding day. Jess and Andrew.

This is one of the best Museums for toddlers by far!!! Come on.. proper fire engines , proper ambulances etc all of which you can climb aboard and pretend to be a Paramedic or Fire Fighter or Traffic Cop!!! There’s so much interactive stuff and my toddlers particularly enjoyed the virtual driving “game”. Older children will appreciate all there is on offer here too.. plus your first visit gets you in for a 12 month ticket.. so you can return as much as you like! Parking very close by , a great Museum.
Great visit at the national emergency services museum my little boy loved it. The ride in a real fire engine (£2 pp) made his day! Would love to return and look at exhibits again to fully appreciate it without little one pulling me around lol.
A great day out for the whole family. There are 3 floors of emergency vehicles, information and facts. Obviously the largest – including an RNLI boat! – are on the ground floor with lots of vehicles to climb aboard and explore. As you move up the exhibits get smaller and often more hands-on. There’s some excellent games for the children to help them learn and play. There is a cafe or you can use the picnic room to eat your own food.

Sheaf Square

Sheaf Square, Sheaf St, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2BP, United Kingdom
What We Offer:

Sheaf Square is a public space situated outside Sheffield Station. The area was previously used as a car park, and was surrounded by a major road network. The square now provides a stunning entrance to the city centre. Sheaf Square is part of our City Centre Master plan. It won the coveted Project of the Year Award in the 2006 National Rail Awards and contains the spectacular Cutting Edge Sculpture, which combines the city’s famous resource – steel with water and light dramatic cascade of water, which uses noise and light to give the plaza an exciting atmosphere. Sheffield design team, Si Applied and international glass artist Keiko Mukaide collaborated in the development of the sculpture. The sculpture is 90 metres long, and 5 metres high at the highest point. The external material is 4mm thick, with a mirror polish on one side of the sculpture and a matt/satin finish on the other. The sculpture was constructed in 8 pieces over a 6 month period,

Fantastic square, and a great “entrance” to welcome new visitors to Sheffield. Just a shame about the derelict land next to it though
Absolutely amazing. An architectural wonder. I did not expect it to be that beautiful but I have to say it blew my mind.
Wonderful ‘moving water’ sculpture installation – I want to be more eloquent in my description but words escape me. As you walk down the slight incline towards station entrance you can’t help put immerse your left hand in the cool water. A grand entrance/exit to very tidy station concourse which feels like it has had recent revamp too.
